As my 7 month mission to the Arabian Peninsula draws to an close, I have been pondering “what is the next right thing to do” in actively loving God, my fellow believer and those in the world. Like many of you, my burden for the Church of America and the state of our country keeps me on my knees. I believe now is a time for praying folk to follow the example of the good Samaritan; which Jesus speaks about in Luke 10:30-37, by actively loving those around us. I invite you to embrace a 3 love, 3 expression approach to life.
In Mark 12:30,31 Jesus tells us that the two greatest commands are to love the Lord our God with all…and that we should love our neighbor as ourself. I present to you, these are the first 2 loves. The corresponding expressions are communing with God (i.e. prayer, worship, scripture study) and sharing life with other believers (i.e. intimate fellowship, sharing life, giving, service). How can we love one another without meeting the needs of those who have lack?
We need not look any further than John 3:16 to find the third love and Matthew 28:18-20 for the third expression. In John we see God’s active love for the world in the gift of His son Jesus Christ. Then in Matthew, Jesus commissions every believer who will ever follow Him to go into all the world and make disciples of all nations…We don’t have to look too far into the life of Jesus to see His method was to go about doing good and healing all who were oppressed of the devil. We have the same Spirit in us that anointed Jesus to proclaim good news to the poor, to proclaim liberty to the captives, recovering of sight to the blind and to set at liberty those who are oppressed.
Will you accept the challenge and share with us how the Lord moves in your life? Please know that we love you and we are praying for you.
